Division Director of Benign Urology and the Director of Trauma and Reconstructive Urologic Surgery
Dr. Cohen is an Associate Professor of Urology at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins. He serves as the Division Director of Benign Urology and the Director of Trauma and Reconstructive Urologic Surgery. Dr. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Florida and earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago. He completed his urology residency at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of medicine, followed by a fellowship in Trauma and Reconstructive Urologic Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Cohen’s clinical interests include ureteral stricture disease, gender-affirming care, urethral stricture disease, rectourethral fistulas, concealed penis repair, genitourinary reconstruction, and cancer survivorship including post-prostatectomy incontinence and sexual concerns. He has spearheaded efforts to expand the use of robotic techniques for reconstruction and brought innovation to surgical education via standardized hydrogel training models. He has published over 100 academic works and presented findings internationally to his peers.
Dr. Cohen is board certified in urology and a member of the American Urological Association (AUA), where he was a member of both the AUA Trauma Guidelines and the Editorial Board of the Core Urologic Curriculum setting standards for resident education. Additionally, Dr. Cohen previously served as the inaugural chair of the Young Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) Committee, the leading academic and clinical forum for reconstructive urology. Dr. Cohen joined the Trauma and Urinary Reconstructive Network of Surgeons (TURNS) in 2025.
