Biography

William O. Brant, M.D., FACS, FECSM, is a board-certified urologist. He attended Dartmouth College and the University of Washington, Seattle and then obtained his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego, followed by residency at the University of Colorado. Dr. Brant pursued a fellowship in sexual medicine and surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) with focus on medical and surgical treatments for penile disorders, including plastic and reconstructive issues in penile deformities and erectile dysfunction, as well as prosthetic surgeries. Currently, Dr. Brant’s practice is dedicated to men’s health, with a particular focus on sexual and erectile medicine, treatment of low testosterone, symptom management following prostate and pelvic cancer treatment, penile reconstructive surgery, and prosthetic surgery. He is the only fellowship-trained physician in his specialty in the Intermountain West.

He is a member of multiple medical organizations, including the American Urological Association, the Sexual Medicine Society, and the Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons. He is a reviewer and consultant for several journals including the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Journal of Urology, Urology, and others. In addition, Dr. Brant is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the European Committee on Sexual Medicine.

Dr. Brant is a member of UpNext, an organization of high-volume prosthetic surgeons dedicated to educating fellow urologists about treatments for erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, and Peyronies disease. As a part of his educational mission, he teaches, proctors, and mentors at various sites in the U.S. and beyond. He is also involved in the PROPPER registry, the largest study ever undertaken on the outcomes of penile prosthetic surgery.

Another organization in which Dr. Brant is a member is the Trauma and Urologic Reconstruction Network of Surgeons (TURNS). This is a group of high volume reconstructive surgeons at different academic centers participating in outcomes research related to male incontinence and urethral stricture disease.

Dr. Brant’s clinical and research interests include management of the side effects and symptoms many men experience following treatment for prostate cancer or other pelvic malignancies, including sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence. As a referral center serving the Intermountain West, he is currently one of the highest (top 10) volume prosthetic surgeons in the world. Additionally, Dr. Brant has been involved in the Bioinnovation program at the University of Utah, a joint program between the Schools of Medicine, Bioengineering, and Business. He has worked with several students to develop new products to aid in patient care. Dr. Brant’s variety of research interests, combined with his dedication towards men’s health issues, provide for highly significant, innovative approaches that continue to move the field of urology forward.
